Ontario Election 2007
Ask your candidates to Make Poverty History!
Despite years of economic growth, 1.3 million Ontarians, including 1 in 6 children, live in poverty and many more are only one or two pay cheques away. It doesn't need to be this way. Lessons learned from the UK, Sweden and Ireland, and right here in Canada - in Quebec and Newfoundland - show that Poverty Reduction Plans work to reduce poverty and build healthier, more cohesive societies. You can help make poverty an Ontario election issue! The 2007 provincial election is an opportunity to press parties and candidates to commit a plan to make poverty history in Ontario. By filling in the form below, you can send a message to candidates in your riding, asking them if they support the goals of Make Poverty History and if they and their party will commit to developing a Poverty Reduction Plan for Ontario with a target of 25% reduction in the poverty rate within 5 years http://action.makepovertyhistory.ca/eactivist/user/userC.jsp?14225&EXAMIN=1

Be sure to pass it on to everyone you know in Ontario

How do you stay healthy when you live on the street? In this unique NFB Filmmaker-in-Residence project, four photographers who have experienced homelessness — Adrienne, Jess, Keneisha, and Meghan — document the stories of 28 homeless men and women through audio recordings and portrait-photography.

I BECAME A CRIMINAL

When I had a baby I was frowned upon

When I needed food I borrowed money and became a criminal

When I couldn’t get my child support it was my fault

When I had a Tupperware party I became a criminal

When I had a yard sale I became a criminal

When I got a loan from the bank it was stolen on me

When I received a gift I became a criminal

When I had life insurance it was taken from me

When they lost my paper work they called me a liar

When I was sick they made me work anyway

When they asked me for things that I could not get, it was just to get rid of me

When they wanted stuff it was illegal for them to have, I knew

When they lied to me< I knew!

When my home caught fire they only wanted to know what I bought, they didn’t care that I was homeless

When my children didn’t get their student loans for college, their future was stolen

When others needed help I had to tell them to lie because they too had become criminals

When the collection agencies harassed constantly, we ignored them

When I talked to my friends they all had the same problems I did

When I became suicidal I needed anti depressants

When I went to school I was taking anti depressants, didn’t learn much

When my children were sick they didn’t care

When I was being abused I had no shelter to help me

When I was working forty hours a week I still had to look for another job

When got fired from my job there was no help

When I called the agencies that were suppose to help I was hung up on and they didn’t return my phone calls

When I became homeless they scoffed at me “Trash”

When I became ill from malnutrition “that couldn’t happen here?” I got sick.

When asked for the truth I was ignored

When I told people they didn’t believe me

When I needed housing there wasn't any!

When I died no one knew why?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clashes break out at summit protest
Some protesters decried the use of designated protest areas, calling them "protest pens."
"They're like cages and they want to keep people in an area where they can manage them," said Trevor Haché, who was part of a caravan of cyclists who rode from Ottawa to join the protest. "We're going to protest where we want to protest. It's our democratic right."

Canadian government officials said the three leaders will be able to see and hear the protesters through a video link inside if they choose to watch.
They get to watch the protesters but we don't get to watch them. I think we should be watching them and not the other way around.
I personally want to see the meeting and I am sure others do to. I want to know what decisions are being made about our future.
Of course that isn't the way it is and that is the way it Should be.
