Release Sami al-Haj, Sudanese Journalist, from Guantanamo BayThis petition requests the release from Camp Delta, Guantanamo Bay, of the Sudanese journalist and cameraman, Sami al-Haj, who was arrested while doing his job and has never had any connection with terrorism.He was working for Al-Jazeera in Afghanistan. He has spent 6 years in captivity in the most terrible conditions and his family fear for his life. His wife and children need him home.
December 15, 2001, dawned overcast at Pakistan’s Chaman crossing point into Afghanistan, and Al-Jazeera reporter Abdelhaq Sadah and cameraman Sami Muhyideen al-Haj were anxious to get moving. Just across the border, the Taliban had fled Kandahar, their rule effectively ended by a fierce U.S. air and Afghan ground assault. The pair’s assignment was to cover the aftermath.
A military judge has dismissed charges against Canadian detainee Omar Khadr, who was 15 when he was captured in Afghanistan, saying the case is outside his jurisdiction.
